Taking the Time
This past week I've been reminded of a pastor's need to pray. Not that I don't pray all the time, at all sorts of events, and for all sorts of things... but to take the time daily for quiet time with God. This happened to me in seminary too. I spent so many hours a day reading the Bible and writing systematic theology papers, and researching sermons and leading chapel... You get to the point where you think all the "God-work" you do can take the place of your own devotional time. You get so concerned about translating Greek that you forget to let the words sink in and to ask God what it means for you. In the parish there is oh-so-many meetings and programs and church services to take care of that its easy to assume that you and God spend enough quality time together. Until it finally catches up with you...

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I am so with you on this. I've been taking prayer time every morning on vacation, but does this happen at home... SO RARELY. I pray constantly, but I personally connect with God not so frequently... a bizarre set of circumstances.
